Linking your Forum posts to your Barge Register entry

You can use the Signature box in your Forum preferences to link other members (not guests!) to your Barge Register entry.

First, (obviously!),  if you haven't already..... add your boat to the Barge Register.

In your BR entry you can see your register ID number, as

Barge ref no: 1371, Quo Vadis

Make a note of the number!

Back on any Forum page, look in the top right-hand corner for 'Preferences' and click on it.    Below the bar,

 Profile for (Your Name)

click on

Profile Information

and scroll down to the Signature box.    Here, add this line with XXXX replaced by the ID number and your boat name -  and click Save.

Subscribing

When you post a message on the Forum, you will be emailed a copy of any reply to the topic - unless you un-tick the Subscribe checkbox below the message.  You can stop these emails with the 'Unsubscribe'  button on the Topic page.  See 'Managing Subscriptions' below for more detail.

Editing after posting

Editing posts after clicking Submit is not allowed. Just post the correction as a new message.  The reasons are

  • People following a thread by email will NOT see the correction.
  • Anyone who has already read the post online is unlikely to see the correction so they may still think a poster is illiterate or wrong unless they see a correction post.
  • If a mistake needs correcting for the archives, so that people searching for information are not misled, the moderators will be happy to correct the post if asked - after the correction has been posted.

The DBA Forum is a place for Members to take part in discussions and to ask and answer questions on any topic relating to barges and barging.

The Forum is organised into several sections:

Barge Life (members only) Life afloat, interests, hobbies and communications - any topic not covered by the other categories
Barges barges and barging: buying, equipment, handling and anything related.
Continental travelling and living on the waterways of mainland Europe
GB&Ireland travelling and living on the waterways of Great Britain and Ireland
Sailing discussion about sailing barges
Stoppages news of unscheduled stoppages, emergencies and exceptional water levels, anywhere.
DBA News (members only) discussion about the DBA itself,
Brexit and Bargees (members only)  Factual information & discussion about Brexit
Forum & Website (members only) discussion about the Forum and Website.
Bar Chat (members only) discussion about any subject

All sections except those marked Members Only
    - can be read by the public and found by Google searches.
     - are moderated for exceptions to the Forum Rules and for topics in the wrong Category.

All past conversations are stored, so they can be quickly searched to find previous answers to a question. You should always search the Forum or Knowledgebase before asking a question - it may have been discussed and answered just a few days ago or covered in a KB article.

Any Member can browse old messages, start a new topic or reply to one. The public can only browse. Members are recommended to search the forum before posting a question as the answer may already exist.

The public and Google searches have access to the DBA Forum so that people interested in barges can easily find the DBA and hopefully join us.

By using the DBA Forum you agree to conform to the Forum Rules, below.

It is very easy to use a discussion Forum in ways that annoy other users.  The following guidelines can help you avoid doing this:

  • Only send messages likely to be of interest to a significant number of other people.
  • Don't send messages aimed at only one or two people in the group - email or PM them directly instead.
  • Make the subject line short but informative.
  • Think about the Forum section you are  posting to! Look at the All Sections page to see what they are for!
  • Don't send the same message to many sections. Wanting to reach as many people as possible is not a good reason.
  • If you are not certain of the accuracy of information you post, say so.
  • Think about your wording - could it be misread and upset someone?
  • Above all, be polite!

REPLIES

  • Make sure a reply relates to the subject. If not, start a new subject (Topic).
  • When posting a reply, only quote what relates to your reply, not entire posts
  • When posting a reply, change the subject line if the topic has changed
  • If you reply to an old post from the archive make it clear that's what you have done.

DON'T

  • Don't abuse or defame another member
  • Don't send 'Thank-you's or Seasons Greetings to the lists - Use the 'Thankyou' button!
  • Don't use 'bad language'
  • Don't defame  or impinge on the reputation of commercial suppliers on DBA's forum.
  • Don't advertise things for sale - we have a very good Adverts facility.
  • DON'T SHOUT.   Capitals are the equivalent of shouting and ill-mannered.
  • Never mark DBA email as spam with your ISP, it may cause other DBA emails to be discarded

If you would like to comment on these guidelines post your comment to the DBA  section or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
