Yes, Kevin.  Yes, I recall using a 12v battery touching positive to a winding terminal and negative to earth.  Attached is an extract from a Fischer Panda manual.  I just used the 12v start battery.

No answer yet! So a couple off obvious questions:

Is this the starter or house alternator on the engine or a generator alternator for Avalon?

Do you have any details (name model)?

Hello

I think I need to re-energise a generator winding.  I recall from previously this need to be 12v briefly applied to the brushes.  What I am not sure about (don't recall) is if this is polarity specific?
