This looks very similar to the Firepro systems I use.
In 2009 I ascertained that it had Rhine certification.

Chris, thank you , really helpful. Apparently the one we have been looking at ‘up here’ does have a CE mark 😄 We think we will invest in one for all the advantages you too identify!

Hi Judy

By service acceptance do you mean approval as fire extinguisher? They have that in Russia and Australia/NZ (1850 ABCDEF and 1841 portable) according to the certification page, but I cannot see they have any standards approval in Eu apart from being safe.

According to the technical data sheet they do not need service or testing. www.fss-esp.com/fss_technical_sheet_portable_eng_july_2016.pdf

I also cannot see the service life is limited to 3 years either, just warrantied to 3 years. Or is that the same thing?

Not listed in technical data sheet as being safe in confined spaces, but stated in FAQ as not depleting oxygen.

I expect until they have approvals, the police inspecting your boat in France will pretend they are not there.
And the interval for service/test is moot as that is at the direction of the manufacturer who does not recommend one.

I have to say for the size it will be hard to beat as first to grab in case of fire. And my partner will be able to pick it up move it and point it too!

The only negative I found is the prolonged aquatic toxicity of the dicyandiamide component (H411
according to www.chemicalbook.com/ChemicalProductProperty_EN_CB1779741.htm ) - most sites seem to say it is non toxic..

Regards
Chris

Thank you, but my question was not seeking advice about extinguishers but seeking information on this specific type. We have conventional extinguishers, serviced annually by professionals in France.

My engineer has been party to a detailed discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of these (as well as water-mist) extinguishers on the CA forum and is interested in them as possible additions to our safety equipment - hence our consideration of their ‘service’ acceptance in France.

I'd prefer to use water-mist extinguishers as HERE  as better known and certainly reliable.  Or there are plenty of standard CO2 extinguishers available, which any service engineers will know.

Chris, yes that’s it. The one we have found marketed in the UK is called the Fire Safety Stick and costs about £72. We’ve since found that, according to the manufacturer, it does require annual maintenance although that this can be done by the owner. We may just have to ask Aquarelle in Auxerre, where we are based, if they can confirm with the man who comes to service ‘regular’ extinguishers that he can check them!

Best wishes,

Judy

Hi Judy
Is that the Firestryker unit? 100 seconds of extinguishing sounds good to me.
If so thanks. Not cheap but an interesting adjunct to other fire suppression systems.
And it appears on searches in France including Sapiers pompiers sites, do they may have heard of them.

Cheers Chris

Fire safety sticks was created by Judy Evans
We are thinking of buying at least one fire safety stick this year to carry on board. Does anyone know if they are acceptable to the French authorities? We have to have our extinguishers checked annually in France and wonder what reception we will get when we present them with these!
