I’m sure we are all concerned about every aspect of the current epidemic and the way it impacts on us, our friends & families and our activities.

From a barging perspective, it’s increasingly clear that the restrictions on people are extending to actual cruising in France and beyond. The Board considered the issues at the meeting last Sunday and, today, the two teams managing the rallies in the UK and Mainland Europe have met to discuss what to do.

You will, I’m sure, see this as inevitable but the Board has decided that there is no option but to cancel the 2020 Rallies both for practical and personal health reasons. Both rallies are due to happen very early in the expected cycle of events so deciding to defer only continues the uncertainty and if cruising does restart then there may not be time to get to a rally before moving onto winter moorings. So the simplest and safest answer is to, sadly, cancel this year’s events.

Those who have already booked for the two 2020 association rallies in Chatham and Pontoise will be contacted directly by Caroline Soper over the refund arrangements. DBA will be bearing the cancellation costs in the circumstances.

Sorry all but I’m sure we all think that the decisions are out of our hands. We’ll look at what we do next year once we have a better view of dates and possibilities. Do let us know if you have suggestions for future rally sites or other activities once we all return to something approaching normal.

And good luck to you and yours wherever you are and whatever your circumstances. Please use the Forum and the Members Group to let everyone know what is happening with you, your barge and in your community.

Best wishes
