Thanks Richard. It's good to have the headlines in your post to save ploughing through the whole minutes

It seems the minutes did not attach; I hope this now works, and Bob Marsland has provided an auto-translation.

A few headlines:

Part of the Yonne was closed 17-18 October (though the minte says November) because of a case of Covid requiring VNF staff to self-isolate.

Water levels: in general low, but currently no major concerns for next season.

Failure of lock gates at Boisseaux: VNF is working to ensure re-opening by the start of next season. There were complaints that this suggested inadequate maintenance.

Use of the network has been significantly reduced in 2020, mainly because of the Covid lockdown and reduced water levels. VNF argued that the main problem was drought rather than inadequate conservation, but they would try to improve this. There was a long discussion of how to encourage more use of the canals despite Covid.

VNF presented their plans for modernisation of the system, including the use of fibre optics to enable automation. There was some criticism that the priority should not be technological fixes but traditional methods such as dredging and strengthening of banks.

Future dates for closures/re-opening are set out in the slides.

We attended (some of) today's meeting. The attached slides show the state of water levels (not good, but it is the end of the season), plans for opening and closure in 2021 and 2022, and main planned works on the network. Good news: more resources are available; bad news: not enough to make up for years of underfunding.
