Hello all,

Here attached is the latest edition of La Navette, the newsletter of AFTM, Association des Transporteurs Fluviaux du Midi:

If reading the English translation I recommend having the original French version at hand. There are some idiosyncratic phrases used in this machine translation.

Of most interest to me is the state of the river Lot and the comments here prompted me to contact a couple of friends who are spending the winter in a house not far from Saint Vite. I asked them to take some photographs of the works. They promised to do so next time they were going that way but in the meantime sent pix from the local newspaper, SudOuest, published in April:

One step closer to joining up the first two navigable sections of the river from the Garonne. The remaining obstacle is the Fumel hydroelectric plant. This will require a new lock in a new location. On the right bank as opposed to the old lock on the left bank. However, contaminated sediments there will be very expensive to remove and the €3M Saint Vite is projected to cost will doubtless be far exceeded.

Best wishes,
