We just got the Avis that the Canal du Midi has reopened from Castelnaudary to the summit pound. Probably had something to do with this arriving yesterday late afternoon.

Hi all

As well as plaisanciers, rental boats and commercial boats, losses of water from unregistered take offs and pumps would be an issue. It is unlikely those would abide by any restrictions imposed.

If policing of these commenced, I suspect bad behaviour could escalate further.

Cheers
Chris

We're in Castelnaudary and just cycled up to locks 21 and the triple at 20. The electric motor on the lower door at 20 was damaged and a replacement is on scene and the workers are puzzling out how to wire it.
One of the lower lock doors at 21 was detached from the upper hinge. We did not go up to 18 but were told one of the doors was removed completely and was found in a field nearby. I can't confirm this.
Both VNF on scene and in the office here in Castelnaudary could give no estimate on when the canal would reopen.
Meanwhile possibly coincidentally, there is an avis about grouping boats between here and the Étang, I presume because they will have a hard time moving water from the summit pound.

Hi all
No service Canal du Midi locks 18, 20, 21 and intervening echelles.
Avis FR/2022/04773
www.rtl.fr/actu/debats-societe/secheresse-des-ecluses-vandalisees-sur-le-canal-du-midi-7900175928
One lock full = half hectare of irrigation. I had no idea irrigation took that much (40X5X2 = 400 tonnes).
Apparently restrictions are being applied to commercial irrigators.
Regards
Chris
