The canal is open at the moment.

It's perhaps more busy than normal (especially on the lower section) due to restrictions on other canals (hire boats are busy this year).

All mooring spots The Saône are very busy.

Will it remain open? Anyone's guess.

10 day forecast without any rain today with temperature hitting 40C with high UV values (massive evaporation). It doesn't bode well for water supplies. The river Doubs is looking very low.

Personally I doubt it will be open for navigation throughout the year, unless the weather changes dramatically.

No decent snow on the Jura mountains for four winters hasn't helped the situation.

With all of the canal closures in France at the moment, I wonder what the conditions are like in the Rhone au Rhin. Is it busy, and are there any murmurings about closures? We're thinking of heading from St Jean de Losne to Basel and back again over a couple of months and wouldn't want to get stuck there....
Any current info?
Many thanks
