Will do. I'm doing my Day Skipper theory remotely (and have been for the last year, ha). Good luck!

Hi Sharna,

I'm afraid I didn't get anything. A couple of placed offering ICC but not day skipper unfortunately. I'm doing my day skipper theory with a outfit called city sailing. I really like the guys who run it and they make learning fun (I'm a bit of an academic retard). I'll probably do my practical course with them. I got in touch with Bisham Abbey as recommended above but they only offer the ICC course. I may go and do my diesel course with them as they have a nice barge to play with.

Please let me know if you do find anything!

All the best,

Paul

Paul, did you have any luck with this? It's also something I'd be very interested in also.

Hi Peter,

Thanks, I appreciate that. I was hoping I might be able to kill two birds with one stone by finding an RYA day skipper school with a Dutch vessel - i.e. get my day skipper and gain some experience on a vessel more like the one I am renovating.

I realise it is a long shot but you never know...

Here's hoping,

Paul

So you want to get your Day Skipper Sail certificate? If so, there are dozens of sailing schools around the coast that offer this course, usually with a VHF course included. Yachts and Yachting have lots of school ads, or you could try the RYA website for a list of schools in the area you choose.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the tip. I got in touch but unfortunately they only offer ICC (which I have) but not day skipper as they are not coastal.

I live on a widebeam at Surbiton so get plenty of time out on the Thames. I really need some hand holding on the non-tidal/coastal front. I wouldn't attempt anything on my own for a while but do want to build up the appropriate skills.

Thanks again,

Paul

Bisham Abbey Sailing School on the Thames has a steel barge they use for people wanting ICC qualifications. I had my Day Skipper (sailing) certificate from way back and attended the Barge Handling course at Bisham Abbey to upgrade to ICC sail and power, inland and offshore. It included the CVNI examination.

Hi,

Probably a long shot but I"m currently doing my day skipper theory and am looking into options for the practical.

Does anyone happen to know a school that has uses a sailing barge?

Thanks in advance,

Paul
