But they agree that boating can return to the tidal waters from today!

Dire warnings abound - at your own risk etc - but PLA water is open for recreation including recreational powered craft from today!

Updated to include ALL recreational activity

Protecting key supplies of food, fuel and medical goods will remain our priority during the COVID-19 emergency. Our pilots and other critical staff are working to ensure that cargo ships can still deliver essential provisions. With our staff resources stretched, we have halted non-essential activities.

How you can help: To reduce the risk of potential unnecessary strain on all the emergency services at this time, we are urgently requesting recreational users cease activity on the tidal Thames until further notice. This important appeal applies to rowers, canoeists, sailors, stand-up paddlers and private pleasure boat owners, as well as mudlarkers and anyone who uses the foreshore for walking, or any other purpose.

At the Port of London Authority our priority is to help ensure the UK continues to receive essential supplies of food, fuel and medical goods at this time. As a result, we expect to have a reduced capability in responding to recreational incidents on the tidal Thames. To reduce social contact, travel and potential strain on emergency services, we strongly recommend that all recreation and leisure activities on the river are avoided until further notice. We are grateful for your co-operation in these exceptional circumstances.
