600 litres at just under 77 ppl which compares well with the best boatyard price of 93 ppl.
Efficient no fuss service. Thanks to Sam Archer for the tip.

Pleasure to have helped save you some money, I always think "oh everyone must know about X and Y and Z" however I have adopted a new approach of assuming no-one knows about these things so happily share and share and keep on sharing.

Ive got a bee in my bonnet at the moment about full RCD on self-fit out sailaway widebeams as plenty cropping up on Facebook pages for sale looking for gullible buyers who haven't got a clue and who could end up with a boat then cannot sell (if next buyer is clued up) without significant costs or having to wait until it is 5 years old. Sorry VERY off Topic.

ps they offer a small tanker service like the one on the main page so can easily access narrower roads. I think they also offer a pick up truck for the even more off beat access.

Ok, I use New Era newerafuels.co.uk/

They apparently offer a nationwide service and I have always found the admin staff as well the delivery staff super helpful and accomodating

I prepared for this day years ago by installing an additional fuel tank which meant that I could receive deliveries by road.
Unfortunately there don't seem to be any suppliers willing to do that these days so the cost of running my boiler and generator has risen considerably already. I've taken to buying white diesel in Jerry cans because my old Daf seems to run much better on it. and the price is favourable against the price of propulsion only red. Going by today's base prices for red diesel at around 90 ppl it doesn't take a genius to work out that white will be around £1.64ppl at the same boat yards so it looks like I am going to have to invest in some more Jerry cans, some for red from land based suppliers and some for white from the cheapest nearby filling station.

Keith

Keith where are you based? I get my red delivered either in 205l barrels and then use a high speed pump to transfer a barrel in less time than it takes to get the pump out and set up. Price is about 90ppl. Or if I need 500l plus then I get a tanker delivery at circa 64ppl.

The reason both Keith and Balliol have found their DAFs working better and showing less smoke is the fact that white diesel has a higher cetane number than red heating fuel. EN 590 defines the characteristics of white.

We started using GNR (Gasoil Non Routier) when it became available and noticed an improvement w.r.t. exhaust. GNR also complies with EN590 but, unfortunately is no longer available to plaisance vessels. We still add a cetane improver as the one we use (Millers Eclipse Powercide plus) also has a diesel-bug killer included.

Coincidentally I was only thinking the other day, as we lay in the bottom of a small lock with the Daf (unusually) still ticking over, how much less smoky it is, which in the absence of any other changes can only be down to the fact that we changed to white diesel a few years ago.

Our white tank is only 750 litres, so not ideal for tanker deliveries although we have had the odd 500 litre delivery. Most fuel is bought at local garages or supermarkets and transported in Jerry cans, then siphoned into the deck filler. It is another job, but not a difficult one!

Balliol.
